Non-visual exercise

The Touchy Subject was a one-on-one tactile tour experience that took place at the Solomon R. Guggenheim museum in 2013 through a partnership with Georgia Krantz and the Mind’s Eye program. With their eyes shut and their hand on the shoulder of an education staff member, participants were guided to tactile points of interest that included collected objects and facets of the building’s interior design. The tours were preceded by a staff training session about haptic criticism that involved close analysis of the tactual elements of objects from the collection and the production of new, descriptive terminology that informed the tour experience.
