Installation
Red chord
Installed for the duration of his three-week residency with the Bureau of Radical Accessibility at the Model Contemporary Art Center in Sligo Ireland, Guiding String was a series of chords that Carmen Papalia tied to fixtures like table legs and handrails so he could feel his way to the restroom, his favorite table in the café, and the second-floor gallery where he was developing a project. While the installation improved Papalia’s access, it disrupted common routes on the first and second floors, requiring those who encountered it to negotiate its presence.
